After finishing her studies at Kambala in 2001, Airlie attended the University of Sydney to complete a BSc (Mathematics, Physics), BEng (Aeronautics Space) and a MEng (Robotics). She then went on to complete a MSc (Mathematics) and a PhD (Aeronautics & Astronautics) at the University of Washington (UW) in 2013. In 2017, she was the first female to be appointed as a Mechatronics lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Melbourne.

Her research is in autonomous systems with applications ranging from robotics to aerospace and from social networks to brain neuronal networks. She has worked on pioneering projects with leading aerospace companies like Boeing, Lockheed Martin and NASA's JPL.

In recognition of her research, at UW she was awarded an Outstanding Female Engineer Award and a College of Engineering Dean's Fellowship. Internationally, she is a twice recipient of an Amelia Earhart Fellowship. Her PhD thesis was awarded the prestigious Springer Thesis Prize. She is currently a L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellow for her work connecting humans and robots. Her robotic work has shown broad appeal with interviews appearing in the Age, Domain, the Herald Sun, Vogue Australia, Mamamia, Futurity News, ABC Radio and on ABC News Breakfast.

Airlie is a strong advocate for STEM education with a particular interest in under-represented groups such as women and students in rural and remote areas. She has been involved in Young Women in Science, Girls in Science, and Science and Technology in Agriculture forums across Australia.

Alanna attended Kambala from 1950 to 1961. She remembers having superb teachers throughout her schooling. Their skill and dedication led to her success in the Leaving Certificate where she topped the state in Latin, Biology, Modern History and overall. She has always been grateful not only for the quality of teaching, but also for the school friends, many of whom she remains in contact with, fifty-five years after leaving Kambala.

She continued with Latin and History at the University of Sydney, and also studied Classical Greek before going on to post-graduate studies. After this she travelled to the University of London for doctoral studies. Following her PhD, she taught and researched in Classical Languages, Ancient History and the History of Early Christianity at Macquarie University, for forty-seven years. She is now Professor of Ancient History though soon due to 'retire' in some sense. She was made a member of the Order of Australia for services to this area in the community.

In 1987, Alanna wrote Kambala: The First Hundred Years, 1887–1987 — "A fitting souvenir of Kambala's centenary year, this book presents an account of the development of the school, the people who shaped it and those who were shaped by it."

Alanna has served (and still does) on numerous state and national educational boards. She is involved also in tertiary Christian education, the grounds of this having been laid at Kambala through the example of service set by several teachers, in particular Miss Fifi Hawthorne. She belongs to many organisations among which is Australasian Women in Ancient World Studies.

She and her husband have, between them, five children and thirteen grandchildren.

Anais Menounos 12 was inducted into KOGs Inspirational Old Girl Series in 2025. She is the co-founder of St Nicholas Mission Academy (St Nic’s) in Kokrobite, Ghana, a school dedicated to providing free education to children living in poverty. After finishing Kambala, Anais graduated from UNSW with a law degree and took a gap year in 2018 to volunteer in Ghana, where she witnessed firsthand the barriers to education, particularly for young girls.

Inspired by these experiences, Anais partnered with Inusah Amidu to establish St Nic’s, which began with 15 students in a rented old church hall. Today, the school has grown to over 250 students across 10 classes, offering free tuition, meals, healthcare, and extracurricular programs including ICT coding, swimming and cultural arts. Despite challenges such as community skepticism and the COVID-19 pandemic, St Nic’s has flourished, breaking cycles of poverty through education.

Anais balances her work at St Nic’s with her legal career at Gilbert + Tobin in Sydney and continues to drive fundraising, partnerships, and strategic growth for the school. Now celebrating its seven-year anniversary, St Nic’s has profoundly impacted Kokrobite, empowering children with knowledge and opportunities beyond what their parents ever had. Anais’ journey is a testament to the power of education and the difference one person can make in changing lives.

Chanel graduated from Kambala in 2015. She graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Commerce Degree majoring in Information Systems, and an Arts Degree, majoring in International Development and minoring in History.

In 2020 Chanel moved to London to pursue a Masters in Education, Gender, and International Development at University College London. From here, she started a petition that called for earlier, and more holistic consent education as a means of reducing rates of sexual assault in Australia. Her petition spurred national conversation and began to remove the taboo placed around being a survivor of sexual assault, as thousands told their stories.

At the age of 23, Chanel has met and collaborated with School Principals from around Australia, Members of Parliament both at a State and Federal level including the Prime Minister, and with State Police as she pushes for: reform to sexuality education, legislative change, and resource reallocation in an attempt to demolish gender based violence at a macro level.

Her closest friends today remain those she made during her time at Kambala.

Diana was born on 19 November 1922 and graduated from Kambala in 1939, where she earned the roles Head Prefect and Dux of the School. She also excelled in sport. On the advice of her history teacher Freda Skinner, Diana applied for the diplomatic cadetship, as established by Dr. Herbert Evatt. In 1943 she was selected from a field of more than 1,500 applicants, as one of Australia's first twelve diplomatic cadets. Diana was one of three females selected and the group who became known as "Dr. Evatt's quiz kids".

The appointment of three females into a male-dominated field prompted a minor controversy in wartime Australia. Despite the scarcity of male civilians to take up diplomacy, critics warned that it was a waste of money to train women who inevitably would marry and have to leave the service. However, Diana was of independent mind and gender blind, pushed through the critics and became Australia's first female diplomat when she was posted to New York as a Vice Consul. She worked under Dr. Evatt whilst he was President of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

In 1947 she married Colonel David Page who had been chief of publicity and psychological warfare for the US Army under General Omar Bradley. The family had five children and moved back to Australia in 1966. Her daughters Carolyn Page '68 and Susan Page '79 are Kambala Old Girls.

Later in life she obtained a degree in librarianship and became a lecturer in Children's Literature at the University of Canberra, and an Australian Children's Book of the Year judge. In 2006, Diana was an invited speaker at the 40th anniversary of the "lifting of the marriage bar", for Australian women public servants. She passed away on 26 July 2009.

Diana had a lifetime association with Kambala and a great passion for the school. Her association with Kambala spanned more than 75 years — as a student, KOGU Archives Registrar, two-time President of KOGU and her positions as both member and President of the School Council. Diana was the first woman and first Old Girl to be elected President of Council, a position she held for 10 years (1991–2001).

Diana entered Kindergarten in 1944. She finished her distinguished scholastic career by being elected Senior Prefect and Gurney House Captain in 1955. She was also awarded the prestigious Latham Cup for Work, Sport and Conduct.

Diana was also a proud parent and grandmother within the school community. Her two daughters Jennifer Hampshire '95 and Elizabeth (Hampshire) Burnett '86 and her granddaughter Ellie Burnett attended Kambala.

Diana's lifetime service to Kambala was honoured in 2009 in the naming of Kambala's Early Learning Centre, Hampshire House. She nurtured a continuing relationship with the school and showed an absolute commitment and sense of responsibility to all her duties, always representing the school with dignity and graciousness as well as always upholding the Kambala values.

Kambala has been truly enriched by the long standing service and contribution Diana made to the school and to the Kambala Old Girls' Union. Diana passed away on 25 March 2021.

Gabrielle is a proud Wentworth girl who attended Kambala from 1967–1976. When she first arrived Miss Hawthorne was the Principal and even though she knew her for only a short time, Gabrielle says that she made an enormous impact on her life. In Gabrielle's time at school Judy Playfair proudly showed the girls her Olympic medal in swimming from the Mexico games, she watched man walk on the moon on a television bought for the event, and the first Blue pocket was awarded for debating to her and her team in their final year. Upon leaving school, Gabrielle joined the Kambala Old Girls' Union and served in many roles including President from 1981–1983 and again from 1992–1996. She was also a member of the School Council from 2000–2006. One of her proudest moments was being chosen as the Speech Day speaker in KOGU's Centenary year.

After leaving school Gabrielle became a banker and in 1985, with the deregulation of the Australian banking sector, she moved into the international banking and finance arena predominantly specialising in trade finance, commodities trading and shipping. In 1993 she was promoted to the Head of Trade for Australia and New Zealand at Citibank, one of the largest banks in the world at the time. Gabrielle worked in that sphere for both local and foreign banks and represented Australia on the International Chamber of Commerce.

In 1997 Gabrielle left her career in banking to spend time with her two young children including daughter Bhanu Thompson '16, and also worked on a voluntary basis with the NSW State Government working group on The Hague Convention on Adoption, and with her husband Neil on the running of an orphanage in Sri Lanka through a Non-Government Organisation, the International Children's Aid.

In the 2000s, Gabrielle returned to the arts, which had been her passion since childhood and her feature credits include the rockumentary Razzle Dazzle: A Journey Into Dance (2005) and the romantic-comedy musical Goddess (2010). On both films she worked with Andrena Finlay, another 1976 Kambala Old Girl and fellow Wentworth girl. Gabrielle also worked on a short film called Snookered (2007), which won second place at the Tropfest@Tribeca short film festival.

In 2009 Gabrielle co-founded the Australian World Orchestra (AWO) in conjunction with her brother Alexander Briger AO and is currently its CEO. The purpose of the AWO is to bring together Australia's finest orchestral musicians from home and across the world, to perform in Australia and overseas with the world's greatest conductors, soloists and composers, while encouraging and developing young talent. Gabrielle has now been appointed to the Advisory Panel of the Australia India Institute and continues her film career through work on a documentary entitled Bringing Them Home, which charts the history of the AWO.

Jennifer's professional career has been in areas of Public Health, specifically related to infectious disease such as HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis but also HIV counselling and Mental Health. She is currently a member of the NSW Mental Health Tribunal, on the advisory committee for the Centre for Emotional Health, Macquarie University, is Vice President of Mental Health Carers NSW (formerly Arafmi NSW), and is a member of several other NSW mental health peak bodies.

Jenny joined the Australian Red Cross Service in 1985 where, as the first Head of the Look-Back Department, she set up Look-Back/Tracing procedures for HIV transfusion transmitted infections. She identified a group of symptomless transfusion infected recipients who, together with their well common donor, became known internationally as the Sydney Blood Bank Cohort (SBBC). The SBBC was shown to have a unique non-virulent strain of HIV virus and for many years Jenny led a research team into the long term non-progression of HIV in the SBBC. Her publications include articles in The Lancet, Science and the New England Journal of Medicine as well as joint-authorship of numerous articles in international and national journals.

She was appointed to the NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on AIDS, and Chair of the Ministerial Sub-Committee on "Community Health and Social Issues" on AIDS Policy. Jenny is now an Honorary Associate of the Centre for Virus Research at the Westmead Millennium Institute.

For forty years Jenny has been a carer of a son who developed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) at the age of 13 and later developed other related mental disorders, and resorted to drug and alcohol misuse. In 1990 she set up support groups and self-help groups for those with OCD and other anxiety disorders, and their carers and friends. In 2000 she introduced an early intervention programme on anxiety disorders for primary-school teachers and parents. In 2005 she was a founding member and then Chair of the NSW Consumers Advisory Committee on Mental Health and in 2006 Jenny commenced The Anxiety Disorders Association NSW Inc. to work with state and community groups.

In 1996 she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). She has also been admitted to the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Honoris Causa, at the University of New South Wales for eminent service to the community.

Jessie attended Kambala in the late 1800s. In her Senior examination she won a gold medal for first place in the State and a silver medal for excellence in Ancient History. In 1903 she was President of the Kambala Union.

Jessie studied medicine at The University of Sydney and graduated in 1906 with an M.B. and Ch.M. She was the first woman to be appointed resident Medical Officer at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, however the Conjoint Board refused to confirm her appointment. This provoked a strong public outcry, and the Board relented, determining that she had succeeded in open competition with men and was therefore entitled to the position.

Jessie became resident Medical Officer at the Hobart General Hospital, then served on the staff of Crown Street Women's Hospital, Sydney, and made a career in private practice as school doctor for The Scots College.

She took an active interest in public life, serving on the executive of the National Council of Women Australia, the Australian Red Cross, the Appeals Committee of the Young Women's Christian Association, and as a member of the Sydney executive of the Victorian League.

In 1915 she married Mr Ambrose Freeman and had four children. Jessie donated her Bowral home Berida to the Australian Red Cross, which became a convalescent home for ex-servicemen and later housed children in temporary care.

After twelve enjoyable years at Kambala Jillian graduated in 1973. She completed a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) where she was awarded the University Medal in Law in 1979. Her first job was as an Associate to Sir Anthony Mason of the High Court of Australia. Following two years at Allens (now Allens Linklaters) as a junior lawyer, Jillian and her husband John Roth left for the United States where Jillian completed a Masters in Law at Harvard Law School and worked for Wall Street law firm Davis Polk & Wardell.

After returning to Australia in 1982, Jillian re-joined Allens where she became a partner. In 1987 she became the first partner to take maternity leave for daughter Jessica, and again in 1989 for son Jeremy.

Jillian left Allens after seven years as partner and became a Commissioner (and later Deputy Chair) at the Australian Securities and Investment Commission focusing on policy and consumer issues. After completing a five-year term Jillian left ASIC and participated in the Dawson Review of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. Jillian was a member of the Australian Securities Exchange Board from 2003 to 2015. Currently, she is a non-executive director of the National Australia Bank, a director of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, a member of the Australian War Memorial Council and Chair of the Australia Israel Chamber of Commerce (NSW).

Jillian's strong interest in governance has led to appointments on a number of government advisory bodies including the Administrative Review Council and the Federal Remuneration Tribunal. Her passion for education has resulted in her appointment as Deputy Chancellor of UNSW Australia and Chair of the John Monash Foundation. Her cultural involvement includes being a past member of the Major Performing Arts Board at the Australia Council, and a current Trustee of the Sydney Opera House Trust. Jillian was awarded a Centenary Medal (2003), a UNSW Australia Alumni Award (2005) and made a Member of the Order of Australia (2005).

Jillian considers herself extremely fortunate to have had a wonderful school and university education, an interesting and varied career as well as fabulous parents, husband, two gorgeous children and a grandson.

Josephine credits Kambala for instilling an excellent foundation of moral values, dedication and intellectual curiosity, as well as providing financial scholarship for several years.

Josephine received a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Sydney and an MBA from the University of Chicago. She became an advisor to Goldman Sachs and JB Were Australia before becoming Partner and Managing Director of Goldman Sachs, where she was with the firm for over 25 years, retiring in 2009.

Josephine is Founder and CEO of Linden Global Strategies LLC, a wealth management advisory firm. She is the Chair of the Board of Lands' End and sits on the boards of Trine Acquisition Corporation and PinnacleCare. She is Ambassador for the USA of Advance and financial advisor for the Prince of Wales Foundation in Washington.

Josephine was an Adjunct Professor at the Business School of Columbia University, where she taught a class in wealth management, and currently teaches and moderates ad hoc sessions. Josephine and her husband Thomas live in New York City and have three children.

As an Old Girl, Josephine gives back to the School by offering the Linden Fellowship to an Old Girl of Kambala who dreams of a career in Finance and the experience of working in New York City.

Judy grew up in Rose Bay with her parents, Morna and David Playfair, siblings John, Angus and Louise '80 and a series of family dogs. She attended Kambala from 1958 to 1971. Around the age of 4 Judy learnt to swim at Watson's Bay Baths and just 'kept swimming', training 2 to 3 times a day. From 1965 to 1969 Judy was the NSW Junior and then Senior Breaststroke champion and record holder. She was the Australian 100m and 200m breaststroke champion from 1967 to 1969, and held both Australian and Commonwealth records.

In 1968, when Judy was only in Year 9, she was selected to represent Australia at the Olympic Games held in Mexico City. She won a silver medal for the four by 100m Medley Relay. She was away from home and school for three months and had her 15th birthday whilst overseas.

In 1970, before the National titles, she was injured and did not swim to her peak. As a result, she was not selected for the Commonwealth Games and retired from competitive swimming. She did, however, continue to represent Kambala. In 1971 Judy became a Prefect and was elected School Deputy Head and Captain of Wentworth.

After leaving Kambala Judy went to the University of Sydney where she completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education. She started her teaching career at Liverpool Girls' High School and taught in both the Physical Education and HSIE faculties across numerous comprehensive public schools. In the mid-1980s she became a Head Teacher at Moorefield Girls' High School and then Leichhardt High School. In 2003 she became Deputy Principal at Canterbury Girls' High School and retired in 2009.

Judy now works as a Casual Academic for the Master of Teaching degree at the University of Sydney. She mentors students on practicum placements in schools. Her interests include walking her black Labrador Frida, keeping fit with ocean swimming, gardening and yoga. She is a member of North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club and works for a number of charities.

The ability for everyone to shine on stage is not just a beautiful sentiment but for Lucy, it was also the guiding principle behind the charity she founded in 2009. DanceAbility is a community group teaching people of all ages with physical or mental disabilities to dance.

From its humble beginnings in a small scout hall at Clovelly, with an enrolment of 12 students and six volunteers in 2009, DanceAbility has grown into a top-class dancing school with enrolments capped at 70 participants and 20 dedicated volunteers.

Among the many tapping feet and smiling eyes is Lucy's first child, Patrick. Born with Down Syndrome, Patrick has been among the hundreds of people who have experienced the sheer joy of dancing to music.

Patrick and his DanceAbility community have performed to ten sell-out crowds at their annual concerts and have performed at various corporate fundraising events over Sydney. As they dance, the only thing that's clear to see is ability, ability, ability.

The benefits of the dance program are huge. The combined health benefits of exercise and the strong sense of belonging to this rich community are profound. Not to mention the positive impact this all has on the extended community of family and friends.

This is the special gift Lucy has given with grace, humility and love in her heart to the DanceAbility community and it is one which will remain her enduring legacy.

Margaret was born in 1929 in Warsaw Poland. In 1938 her father Zigmund Nebenzahl moved the family to Melbourne following Hitler's rise to power. The family later moved to Sydney where Margaret attended Kambala, finishing as Dux. She went on to study arts at the University of Sydney and received a scholarship to the United Nations in New York. She met and later married Isaac Gutman in New York and had two sons Sandy and Michael.

Returning to Australia in 1954 they settled in Castlecrag. Margaret worked for several publications as a journalist, including a stint at SBS-radio. She also worked with the Sydney identity June Dally-Watkins on several fashion ventures.

Margaret was heavily involved with the Sydney Jewish community. She was Executive Director of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies and worked tirelessly for the Sydney Jewish Museum. Peter Wertheim worked with Margaret during this time and said "she was blessed with an abundance of intelligence, energy, tact, and empathy". She organised countless events and projects showcasing Jewish art and culture, including the Yom Ha'atzmaut function on the 50th anniversary of Israel's foundation. She also helped to organise an exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum in 1998 which featured more than 300 Judaica exhibits, illuminated Hebrew manuscripts, richly embroidered synagogue textiles and ceremonial silver objects from the Jewish Museum of Prague.

Margaret passed away on 25 May 2016.

In 2009, while studying at Kambala, Margaret established her website which has grown and spoken to a combined global audience of over 1.6 million people. Since leaving Kambala, Margaret has built a global fanbase for her work as a director, photographer, actor, model and writer.

While completing her Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws at The University of Sydney, Margaret worked with global brands including Chanel, UNIQLO, Bulgari, YEEZY, Clinique, Lexus, Dior, Gucci, Google and Louis Vuitton in a wide range of capacities, both in front of and behind the camera. Margaret has also been featured on the cover of Elle Australia.

Though regularly featured in front of the camera, Margaret's directing, photography, writing and styling has been employed by the likes of Vogue, L'Officiel, Harper's Bazaar, NYLON, Marie Claire, Grazia and Elle internationally.

In 2016, Margaret co-founded BACKGROUND, a global consultancy specialising in Western-to-Chinese and Chinese-to-Western cultural education for a range of luxury, lifestyle and brand initiatives.

In 2021, Margaret Zhang became the youngest person ever to be appointed Editor in Chief of Vogue China. She has appeared in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia and Time Out 40 Under 40 lists, and her work has been recognised by The Business of Fashion BoF 500 index for four consecutive years.

Nicky left Kambala in 1982 and studied Arts and Law at the University of Sydney. Nicky was admitted to The Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1988 and as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1991. Nicky practiced as a solicitor in private practice in Sydney and in London. She is a PhD in law in dispute management and mediation. Nicky is a co-founder of Sydney Mediation Partnership, a dispute resolution practice in Sydney where she practices as a mediator in areas including court appointed private, workplace, commercial, and family mediation as well as dispute resolution programs in private and public communities.

Nicky co-authored and published Two Birthday Cakes and Two Birthday Cakes and Baby Jack with Kambala Old Girl Danielle Jaku-Greenfield '95, which are self-help children's books on separation and divorce. Nicky holds an appointment as an associate professor (adjunct) in the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology where she leads research projects, teaches as a casual academic and is working as a PhD supervisor. Nicky served the NSW Government for five years with her appointment to the Independent Liquor Gaming Authority board in May 2016. From 2009–2011 she was a mentor to school students from Campbelltown, NSW. From 2018, she led, supervised and organised UTS Law student groups to establish, implement and evaluate a community mediation program at Granville. Prior to this Nicky led research about the judiciary and dispute resolution which involved interviewing over 100 Judges across five jurisdictions across Australian courts. She also set up and organised UTS Law student groups implementing and evaluating a community mediation program at a NSW corrections facility in 2013–5.

Apart from her academic papers on law being published, while Nicky was managing her late mother's Eva Breuer Art Gallery (2010–2014), Nicky published books on art, David Boyd, his work, his life, his family and co-authored Slow Burn; a century of Australian women artists from a private collection. She was KOGU President from 2006 to 2010. Nicky is married to Bruce McWilliam and is the mother of three children, Andrew, Hugo and Kambala Old Girl Sarah '15.

Sally attended Kambala from 1962 to 1974 when she was House Captain of Roseby. She then attended the University of New South Wales where she completed her Bachelor of Arts before starting a career in financial services, which would take her to live and work in Melbourne, Los Angeles and New York.

Sally spent 16 years with the Westpac Group, running major business units in most operating divisions of the Group, including the Institutional Bank, Wealth Management (BT Financial) and the Retail and Business Banking division. Her last role at Westpac was heading up Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, held through the merger with St. George Bank and throughout the global financial crisis.

In late 2010 she transitioned to a career as a Non-Executive Director in the fields of financial services, retail, manufacturing and property. Sally sits on both listed and unlisted boards of companies including Suncorp Group Limited, Premier Investments Limited and Breville Group Limited. She is also on the board of Investec Property Limited, the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust and the Sydney Film Festival.

Sally is a member of Chief Executive Women and has particular interests in education, the arts and disability. She was President of the Kambala School Council for four years until mid 2018.

Sarah was born and raised in Cowra, NSW, and attended Kambala as a boarder from Year 7 to Year 12. After Kambala, Sarah studied Agriculture Science at The University of Sydney before switching to Applied Science (Wine Science) at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, graduating in 2003.

Sarah moved to the Yarra Valley in Victoria and worked as a cellar hand for De Bortoli Wines. In 2005, she was promoted to White Winemaker, and from 2011, her focus shifted to Red and Rosé Winemaking production. To broaden her knowledge, Sarah worked vintages in the Napa Valley, California; Rheingau, Germany; and Piedmont, Italy. She has participated as a wine show judge across Australia and serves on the committees of the Yarra Valley Wine Show and James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge.

Sarah's awards include a scholarship to the Len Evans Tutorial in 2008, Matt Skinner's Wine Guide Rising Star Award 2008, and The Gourmet Traveller Wine Young Winemaker of the Year 2009.

Sarah has also been involved in several award-winning wines, including the 2010 PHI Pinot Noir, which won the Champion Wine of Show at the National Wine Show in Canberra in 2012 — the first time a Pinot Noir had been awarded such a major trophy.

Praised by The New York Times for her "penetrating musical intelligence", her performance "tempestuous" and "imbued with a luminous calm", internationally acclaimed Australian pianist Sarah Grunstein has performed in the United States, Austria, Hungary, Italy, England, Ireland, New Zealand, and her homeland. Reviews have likened her performances to those of Dame Myra Hess, Harold Samuel, and Wanda Landowska.

Early in her career, in celebration of the Bach Tercentenary, she performed Bach's complete Well-Tempered Clavier in London's Purcell Room, New York's Merkin Concert Hall, and the Sydney Opera House; her all-Bach recital in London leading to an invitation to perform at Kensington Palace before His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. More recently her performance of the Goldberg Variations led to her being acclaimed as the "shining light" among the Bach pianists of the generation following Glenn Gould.

A longtime Steinway Artist, her career has included concerts at London's Southbank Centre, New York's Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, La Civica Musica in Milan, the Sydney Opera House, and the Melbourne Recital Centre.

A sought-after pianist and pedagogue, Sarah Grunstein has presented master-classes and seminars in the United States including the New England Conservatory and the Frederick Historic Piano Collection, Durham University (England), the Norwegian Academy of Music, the Royal Irish Academy of Music (Dublin), the universities throughout Australia, and the University of Auckland, New Zealand, as Artist-in-Residence. She has adjudicated for composer awards and major piano competitions in the United States.

Many will remember Sarah Grunstein as the pianist who, as a young teenager, performed the soundtrack for Bruce Beresford's early Australian film, The Getting of Wisdom. A winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Award for Young Australians, she soon after moved to New York to train at The Juilliard School where she earned the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She has taught at The Juilliard School as Teaching Fellow, the Manhattan School of Music, Fordham University, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Victorian College of the Arts, College of the Holy Cross, the City University of New York, and has created and directed Historic Piano Chamber Festivals at the Frederick Piano Collection.

Passionate about engaging in conversations with audiences, Sarah Grunstein recently joined the KOGU Committee as mentor in the arts and would be delighted to hear from anyone who wishes to reach her.

Sheila was born on 23 October 1912 and attended Kambala from 1924–1928, during which she was the first Roseby House Prefect and was awarded the Dr Latham Cup in her final year. After completion of the Leaving Certificate she worked at the Australian Museum for a year until she was old enough to study at Australian College of Physical Education. At the College she excelled in fencing, hockey and many other sports and became the top student in her year. After graduating as a Sports Mistress she moved to Presbyterian Girls' College, Adelaide and worked there whilst she represented South Australia in hockey. She moved to Perth College and represented Western Australia in hockey for two years. Sheila then accepted a position at SCEGGS Darlinghurst as Sports Mistress and represented NSW at Hockey.

She became engaged to Milton Copp in 1940 and they were married at St Michael's, Vaucluse before he sailed to the Middle East. Milton eventually returned home, although very badly injured. In 1949 Milton and Sheila founded a tennis school and taught at many schools in the City, Southern Highlands and in the New England District of New South Wales.

Sheila was a long-time President of the Kambala Old Girls' Union and the Kambala Parents' Association, which she helped to found. She was also a member of the School Council. Her daughters Jennifer (Copp) Gore '58, Margaret (Copp) Armstrong '63, and Rosemary (Copp) Paterson '63 are Kambala Old Girls. Sheila never wavered from her conviction that Kambala was a school with which one should be proud to be associated, and a school which was a great influence for good in the community. Following her death in August 1969, the Sheila Copp Memorial Trophy for Sport and Sportsmanship was given by the Old Girls' Union in recognition of all she had done for the School.

Valery was born on 22 July 1921 in Woollahra and attended Kambala from 1928 to 1937 when she obtained her Leaving Certificate. She was a highly accomplished athlete, regularly participating in the inter-school athletics and sports meetings held at the Sydney Sports Ground.

Valery, like numerous old Kambala girls, was passionate about the plight of sick or injured people in remote areas and thus raised funds and served on committees for many years, whilst working as an occupational therapist for the Red Cross Society. During the Second World War, Valery was the founding president of a branch of the Signals Comforts Funds. After the War, Valery and her mother Mavis became involved in the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which was acknowledged by Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies as being at the time "perhaps the single greatest contribution to the effective settlement of the far distant country that we have witnessed in our time".

Valery was an active member of the KOGU and, over the years, donated several items of historical significance to the School's archival collection. These items include her Roseby House Badge, a silk rayon tie and grey bemberg sports tunic and pants.

In 2000 Valery published a book entitled They Also Served which recorded former Kambala students' memories of service during the major conflicts in the 20th Century. As a highly-skilled artist, Valery both compiled and illustrated the stories for the publication.

Valery passed away on 2 January 2013. She had a great appreciation and love of the School and the enduring friendships made and cherished until her death.

The Breckenridge family had a strong connection with Kambala. Mr. Breckenridge was a member of the first Council of the School, which worked to purchase Tivoli and the land on which Kambala stands. The girls, Vida and Marie ('32), were extremely gifted students. In 1923, Vida won prizes in English, Latin, and Physiology as well as prizes at the Kambala Annual Prize giving ceremony, including a prize for general proficiency.

Vida was also an avid member of the Kambala Old Girls' Union from the 1930s. In fact, in 1953 she voted successfully to save the Union. The Honorary Secretary Alisa MacDonald Gill noted in her report for that year that "Vida has been a tower of strength and never minds how often I ask her for advice. The Union owes a lot to Vida, because on one occasion it was her vote alone that saved it from extinction."

Vida and her sister Marie were highly involved in the art world. They were both artists and undertook academic work on over thirty-years of out-of-print art, papers and books that were donated to the Art Gallery, Mitchell Library, and University of Sydney in 1969. A portrait of the two sisters by New Zealand artist Nancy Borlase is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.

Vida passed away on 14 December 1996.
